So I just finished watching the Canadian Idol results show. I'm crushed. Jenny was by far my favourite. I really thought she was going all the way. In fact, my favourite two contestants, Jenny Gear and Ryan Malcolm, were the lowest vote getters. All the judges were shocked. But as I said, she is my favourite by far and at first I wasn't sure if Ryan's presence will be enough to keep me watching the show. But I'm going to be a good sport and keep watching. I kinda like Gary too anyways, and Audrey is usually enjoyable enough.
That brings me to Billy. I can't stand Billy one bit. So perhaps that will be my motivation to keep watching. To vote for Ryan an obscene amount of times each show, so that he beats out Billy. Or <insert devilish grin here> voting for everyone other than Billy an obscene amount of times each show. Which won't be too hard, because there are only 4 people left. There's always the possibility that I'll be crushed when he wins though. *cries* But Jenny will make an appearance on the finale, so I guess that settles it. You may still consider me a Canadian Idol fan. Just don't make the mistake of thinking I'm a fan of the results! Oh, it was consoling though, how at the end Toya ran up on stage and hugged Jenny for so so long. They totally understand how they were both robbed, I think.
Okay, so I have 4 more sleeps before I go home. Okay, technically 5, but I don't think I'll sleep much the last night, since my bedding will be gone, and I have to get up very early anyway on Sunday morning to catch my flight. Today I mailed off my keyboard (Yamaha musical keyboard, that is) and keyboard stand. Soon I'll send off the TV, because there isn't much left that I'll want to watch on TV this week. What about Canadian Idol, Best and Worst Of on Thursday evening, you ask? Well, I've already made plans with a friend to hang out that evening. And another friend back on PEI offered to tape it for me. Plus, I don't really care if I see it or not. I've watched every episode, so it's stuff that I've seen before. I also find watching the bad performances quite stressful. I just imagine what it would be like to be in that position. Doing something that you totally love, and being told that you suck at it. I think I'd die if I was in that position. Or laugh.
I have two more things to say.
One. Bell Canada is the devil. I submitted an online request to have my phone line disconnected right after I head back home. I got an automated reply, saying that I'd have to disconnect my high speed Internet separately, by contacting Bell Sympatico by phone or e-mail. Being the socio-phobic (is that a word?) Internet geek that I am, I chose e-mail. Well, due to the high volume of e-mails they've apparently been receiving, it was a couple days before I received a response. According to the response, I had to telephone Bell Sympatico so that they could verify my identity before disconnecting my Internet. So I called them. After waiting my turn for an operator, I was told that since I had a bundle with my long-distance plan, I actually had to call Bell Canada. They transferred me to the appropriate department. So I explained my story, and the lady promptly said, "Oh, you have to call Bell Sympatico to do that." Luckily I caught her in time to explain that I'd just been transferred from there, so I started explaining why, and she finished my sentence. Ah, someone does know what's going on. Good. So she put me on hold for two minutes, did some stuff, then told me she had to connect me with someone from Bell Sympatico who would explain how to return my modem. How complicated could it be? Oh, you won't believe it. She connects me with this guy who explains that 2 to 5 business days after I'm disconnected, I'll receive directions in the mail about how to return it. "Um, I'm moving to a different province the day before it's disconnected. Can't I just return it to a Bell World store?" Of course not. So in the end, the letter is on the way to me, so that hopefully I get it before Friday... but really it's in Canada Post's hands. Okay, hrrmm, I guess if I don't get it by then I'll ask my landlords to return it for me? Okey dokey then. I guess they mail you postage so you can mail the modem back to them. And if I don't return it, I either get charged $300 or $180. They couldn't seem to decide which. Total time on the telephone: 21 minutes.
Two. (I bet you forgot we were even counting by now, eh?) Isn't Jean Chretien great? I just have to say that I respect him so much for pushing forward with the same-sex marriage legislation, even when his religion is telling him that his own salvation is in jeopardy. I just think the whole debate is silly. For one thing, the law is invalid and violates the charter of rights, so they have to re-write it. The other silly thing is these people who try to say that they support the rights of same-sex couples, but they think there should be another term other than "marriage" for it, such as a "civil union." Well, what are you trying to do by calling it something else? You're trying to make it less significant. But if it is exactly the same, how can it be less significant with only a different name? From these homophobes' points of views, shouldn't just the fact that it's a marriage between two members of the same sex make it less significant whether it's called a marriage or not? And of course there's all this crap about the sanctity of marriage. How do two gay people getting married affect anyone else's marriage? On top of all this, the legislation recognizes religious freedom. If your religion doesn't believe two people who love each other should be united in "holy matrimony" unless they have the complete collectable set of genitalia, then they don't have to be allowed to. They'll be united in "legislative matrimony," or whatever it's called when you get married by a Justice of the Peace.
Okay, I think that's all. May be awhile before I update again, since there's no Internet access on Prince Edward Island. (My on-going joke with Ontarians.) Plus I have that little work term report to work on. Heh - with all my packing and end-of-work-term preparations this week, it has slipped to the back of my mind. Well, unfortunately it has to be addressed next week. So until next time, keep on smiling. And watch out for Jenny Gear!
P.S. - You can see pics of Jenny and download songs! here.
